About Lovell International Camps
The Lovell family owned and operated the prestigious John F. Kennedy International School and Summer Camp in Saanen-Gstaad, Switzerland for over 40 years. In 2011 the family decided to separate the school and summer camp and create Lovell International Camps AG. Lovell Camps have expanded its recreational and learning opportunities by opening up a winter camp program which offers a wide variety of winter sport activities and language classes for boarding and day campers as well as groups.
Throughout the years there has been a positive, ongoing association with families and staff members. Lovell Camps is very much a ‘word of mouth’ organization, with the result that, every summer and winter, we welcome new campers and counselors who are friends, brothers, sisters, cousins and now even children of former students.
Some key features help to make our camps so successful: the family-like atmosphere, the opportunity to learn or to practice English, French and German, the structured, well-supervised program, and, of course, the experience of a lifetime in the Swiss Alps! Our highly-qualified staff members make the difference between a good camp experience and a great one.
The first concern of our program directors and counselors is always the welfare and happiness of each child. All of us here at Lovell Camps do everything possible to ensure that each child thinks of camp as a time to have fun, to make new friends, to improve their sports skills, and to learn new things - about the world, about other cultures, and about him or herself.
Where is Schönried?
By car, the camp is easily accessible. They are approximately 1 3/4 hours from Geneva, 1 1/2 hours from Bern, and 2 1/2 hours from Zurich. By train, there are good connections from Geneva to Schönried via Montreux or from Zürich via Bern, Spiez and Zweisimmen.
We have three campuses situated in Ski Resorts in the Swiss Alps near the border with Italy and France.
The major commercial airport close to our Lovell campuses is the Geneva International Airport, plus many small private airports. Our drivers and camp monitors can meet students at the airport and escort them in private Lovell buses to the camp for a stress free week for you.
For younger campers who may be travelling alone the “Unaccompanied Minor” service, offered by most airlines, ensures your son/ daughter will be assisted throughout the airport and will be signed over to a member of Lovell staff so that you can be assured they have arrived safely, without any undue stress.
At the end of the week we help students to check into their flight, pass security successfully and, for unaccompanied minors, we stay with the students at the gate until time for boarding.
Lovell Camps
At Lovell Camps, young people gain the opportunity to learn, practice and refine their language skills through a total immersion English language program. French is also offered as a language to study. Lovell Camps promotes programs including swimming, hiking, outdoor living skills and environmental education.
A wide variety of sports and activities are offered as interest groups, for example tennis, golf, horseback riding, football, arts and crafts, music, cooking, mountain biking and rock climbing. Children can choose to pursue two such activities.
Being an ideally located summer camp in Switzerland, the program also includes weekly excursions and special events days. Overnight camping trips and treks to Swiss Apline Club huts give students the opportunity to practice their outdoor skills and increase environmental awareness. Students are exposed to Swiss history and culture through visits to local attractions along with day trips to well-known destinations across the region. Other activities include campfires, pool parties, trips to the Aquaparc and discos. Friendships and memories developed at Lovell Camps will last a lifetime!
CAMPUS
Lovell Camps is based at the Mountain Lodge - a modern, spacious, comfortable and well-equipped facility located in a rural area above the village of Schönried, which is a perfect setting for a summer camp in Switzerland. The camp has one of the most picturesque locations in the Saanenland and is close to the world- famous resort of Gstaad with it’s first-class hotels, restaurants, shopping, sports facilities and events.
This large facility accommodates up to 60 boarding campers and the counsellors. Each room sleeps 2 - 6 campers with private bathroom and shower.
The Mountain Lodge has a spacious dining facility with breathtaking views, 3 classrooms, 2 large meeting or general purpose areas equipped with ping pong and foosball tables and a multi purpose movie room. The Lodge is surrounded by acres of gardens including a football field, basketball court, trampoline, slack line and fire pit.
Within a few minutes of the camp are the Saanen, Schönried and Gstaad tennis courts, golf course, indoor tennis courts, the local gymnasium, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, the Gstaad Riding School, rock climbing facilities, bowling alley and at least 12 major mountain cable cars and chairlifts.
Summer camp experience
At Lovell our Summer Camps provide more than just great activities and experiences.
We introduce lifelong skills such as communicating with others, without your phone or laptop, understanding the value of living in a community away from the familiar environment of home or school. Of course there are massive benefits to learning a new activity such as Mountain Biking or Rock Climbing, and gains from our tailored Leadership and Career Guidance programs, but having a break from the academic cycle of school and putting fun, creativity and excitement on a daily basis as the priority is where the strength in summer camp lies.
