About Les Elfes International Camps
Les Elfes, established in 1987, is a year-round adventure sports and languages camp with three campuses in the Swiss Alps. Like the nation in which our camp has grown we pride ourselves on achieving excellence in everything we do and would like to take you on a small tour of the best Switzerland has to offer. From excellence in engineering, gastronomy, banking, international peace-keeping and artisan chocolates Switzerland is a nation steeped in tradition.
There are four distinct cultural segments in Switzerland with four national languages: Italian, French, German and Romansch and four diverse cultures united by the common values of peace and prosperity. It is the perfect place to learn new languages in an atmosphere of international cooperation and community. Famous for the Swiss Red Cross, home to the League of Nations and the second largest United Nations office in the world it is easy to see why this small, landlocked country offers so many international experiences for our students.
The variety of mountains, forests, lakes and open spaces offer a playground of outdoor space for all adventurous activities and a collection of beautiful metropolitan cities and world famous ski resorts offer endless opportunities to explore the culture of this special nation.
Where is Verbier?
Verbier is located in the French part of Switzerland, 1 hour and 45 minutes from Geneva, 2 hours and 45 minutes from Zürich and 30 minutes from the Italian and French borders.
The major commercial airport close to our Les Elfes campuses is the Geneva International Airport, plus many small private airports. Our drivers and camp monitors can meet students at the airport and escort them in private Les Elfes buses to the camp for a hassle-free start to the week.
For younger campers who may be travelling alone the “Unaccompanied Minor” service, offered by most airlines, ensures your son/ daughter will be assisted throughout the airport and will be signed over to a member of Les Elfes staff so that you can be assured they have arrived safely, without any undue stress. At the end of the week we help students to check into their flight, pass security successfully and, for unaccompanied minors, we stay with the students at the gate until time for boarding.
Les Elfes Camps
Despite Verbier’s reputation as a leading ski resort in the winter, the summer is packed with festivals, mountain sports and visitors from all over the world.
Each weekend brings a new crowd starting the summer with the Verbier Festival, a prestigious Classical Music Festival, attended by the most esteemed musicians from around the world, to the splendid display of athleticism offered in the Jumping International de Verbier Equestrian events towards the end of August.
Campus
Our two purposes built wood and stone chalets follow the Swiss Alpine tradition and offer charm and comfort to our guests. Both chalets are situated in green, peaceful surroundings and only five minutes from the center of Verbier. Whether it is sports, music or arts and crafts, games with the staff or each other, there are always a selection of activities on offer outside of the busy schedule of planned activities: winter, spring or summer.
The Summer Experience
Summer Camps are nothing new to the World. As far back as the early 20th century children have been sent away from home to help develop certain skills, experience the great outdoors, meet new people, to learn that all important element of independence, and quite simply to have fun away from home!
Fast forward to the present day – any global destination is now reachable on a plane, worldwide communication at the click of a button, times and attitudes have changed so the need for the summer camp exists more than ever.
At Les Elfes our Summer Camps provide more than just great activities and experiences.
We introduce lifelong skills such as communicating with others, without your phone or laptop, understanding the value of living in a community away from the familiar environment of home or school. Of course there are massive benefits to learning a new activity such as Mountain Biking or Rock Climbing, and gains from our tailored Leadership and Career Guidance programs, but having a break from the academic cycle of school and putting fun, creativity and excitement on a daily basis as the priority is where the strength in summer camp lies.

As the oldest campers at Les Elfes, Pioneers serve as role models and have certain privileges like receiving a green card in order to go to village without a monitor during free time.
LE Pioneer Camp is a great opportunity to socialize and make many friends from around the globe.
Les Elfes ensures active participation, a very broad choice of exciting activities and a high degree of learning in a fun and very international environment, all by guaranteeing maximum safety through our caring & experienced staff.
Campers will return home with great experiences, fantastic memories and lifelong friendships.
Meet friends from all corners of the world. Trough out each year, there is a mix of over 50 different nationalities present at Les Elfes.
We are pleased to have heard from many campers that they have found lifelong friendships and have built international networks for their future.
At Les Elfes we have students from all over the world. Within this international community we feel it is beneficial to recognize the traditions of each other. It not only gives students the opportunity to celebrate their nation or beliefs, but allows them to bring a little piece of home into the camp. Also students from other parts of the world will learn and hopefully appreciate the cultures of others, to recognize that New Year is celebrated at a different date in china for example, or that Christmas is not always on the 25th of December for some.
In this modern diverse age, the fabrics of society are made up of many different cultures, and here at Les Elfes we constantly strive to recognize them all, and if it means cooking some traditional dishes, or decorating the chalets accordingly, then we are more than happy to encourage students to do so and will help them along the way.

We maintain small group sizes for this age group and a challenging range of activities to suit even the sportiest of youngsters.

Babysitting
Our experienced staff will manage the activities for the camp and some of the staff will also be responsible for the pastoral care of the group. Ensuring the wellbeing and happiness of the campers throughout their stay and helping them to manage away from home. We monitor students in brushing their teeth, tidying their belongings, separating their clean and dirty clothes, filling their laundry bags, brushing their hair, showering regularly, keeping in regular contact with their parents each evening and even budgeting their pocket money.
Discovery Star Chart
To encourage students to become more independent and to begin to think about managing their belongings and how they approach new activities and new experiences we have the Star Chart. An award system which encourages students to work together and to be more confident throughout their time with us to collect stars for their team. It is a fun way to encourage good behaviour and a good attitude amongst our smallest campers.
It is an exciting experience being away from home for the first time and, with our Discovery staff, your children are in good hands!
EXPLORER CAMP (12-14 Y.O.):
For our slightly older and more experienced campers we offer a challenging and interactive programme of activities. In the Explorer group students are expected to become much more independent and to be prepared to step out of their comfort zones a little.

Our most challenging program recognizes the need for these older students to try new things and to push their boundaries. This program is packed with exhilarating activities on the lake and even a final ‘leap-of-faith’ activity to round up the session on a high!
Our Pioneers are a vibrant and energetic group, many of whom are preparing for being away from home in a couple of years at college or university and it is such a valuable experience for them to spend their summer standing on their own two feet and making decisions for themselves.
Red & Green Cards
To reflect the maturity of our older groups at the camp, parents can opt for members of the Explorer and Pioneer groups to have permission to visit the village with their friends at set times of the day. It is an opportunity which allows them to develop some responsibility and independence during their stay.
Evening Activities
Our evening programs are tailored to meet the requirements of our students. Our groups participate in an activities program from 8pm until 9pm and our older groups from 8pm until 9:45pm, with bedtime at 10pm.
We offer many activities including: ice skating, team challenges, quizzes, disco night, games competitions, dine out in a Swiss restaurant, cinema night, campfires, torchlight walk, mountain BBQ, nightline, bin bag fashion show, dragons’ den, etc. Also we will have a final prize-giving celebration to finish each week.
Excursions
What better way to really appreciate the culture of Switzerland than to dedicate a day to visit some of the most iconic cities and some of the famous organizations.
Each of our cultural excursion days is a little different, with new options each year for those returning campers who are ready to see something new! Whether it is souvenir shopping that interests you or the science exhibitions of CERN the options are endless. Sample some of the finest Swiss chocolates and cheeses at the factories in Gruyere, learn a little about global cooperation with a guided tour of the United Nations or Swiss Red Cross museum in Geneva, an interactive tour of the Olympic museum in Lausanne the home of the International Olympic Committee, walking inside a glacier at the nearby ice caves in Chamonix, visiting many of the beautiful castles in the area, experience the tranquility of the natural Bains de Lavey hot springs, take a stroll through the winding cobbled high streets of Zurich, see how some of the most exquisite and delicate watches in the world are built and many more options.
Goals:
- To provide safe, healthy, and challenging learning experiences for young people
- To introduce students to skills and sports that increase self-confidence while building character and leadership qualities
- To help students develop their language ability and communication skills
- To increase environmental awareness through participation in a variety of outdoor living activities and sports
- To help campers to develop a global and empathetic world view by bringing young people from a variety of cultures and countries together in an open and engaging way
Staff & Safety
At Les Elfes we have a huge responsibility for the safety of the students in all of the activities.
Safety is our highest priority. All of our staff must have a valid First Aid Certificate and a current Criminal Records Check before beginning their training at Les Elfes.
Unlike many similar camps over half of our staffs are employed for the full year to ensure that the standard of activities we offer is consistently high at all campuses.
We also find that maintaining a core team of staff who work each year with the same groups enables us to build a repertoire with schools and with their students to provide a better service and a better experience.
Daily measures
Throughout the year, whether it is skiing or snowboarding in winter or Mountain Biking and Rock Climbing in summer, the students take part in what we call activities containing certain risk elements. We therefore have strict procedures in place to ensure that during these activities, the students are exposed to as little risk as possible. To ensure this, we make sure our staff are fully qualified and well trained according to the time of year, and whatever time of year the day has to begin with a meeting identifying these risks.
In case of Emergency
Risk assessments are designed for each activity and are signed by all our monitors and head instructors during daily morning briefings and daily evening debriefings.
We have 3 up-to-date medical clinics in Verbier, and both campuses have access to a regional hospital and two University hospitals only 40 minutes and 75 minutes away respectively or just 10 minutes by helicopter.
Given all the factors to consider when choosing a summer program, parents should look at the security of the Summer Camp. There are several things that must be considered: Location, facilities, staff, medical support and activities are points to consider as safe.
-10 Benefits of Attending Les Elfes Camps
